Fellow CREW CT - The Real Estate Exchange Members and Friends,
As we move well into the second half of my year as President, I want to Thank You - for entrusting me with the stewardship of CREW CT this year. Having served this organization in many different capacities since 1998, from Program Committee to Membership to Blue Ribbon, I am invested in the continuing vibrancy of our group. With this in mind, my focus this year has been a Back to Basics plan to 1) to develop our vision and commence a strategic plan for our future, 2) to reinvigorate and build our membership and 3) to revamp and take a closer look at our sponsorship program.
At our Vision Retreat last March, the Executive Committee went through a series of exercises discussing and drilling down to our core ideology and after much wordsmithing came up with the following Purpose Statement: To enhance the lives of women in Commercial Real Estate by providing a unique place to obtain multidisciplinary education, personal supportive friendships and business opportunities. After the retreat, I pulled out our By-laws and was pleased to find in reviewing the original purposes set forth therein, that we had essentially reconfirmed, some 25 years after this group was established, the objectives of CREW CT – The Real Estate Exchange remains as true today as since our inception.
In reiterating these objectives I want to remind all members that this is why you joined in the first place and I challenge all members, new and old, to reap the benefits you signed up for! You can do this by attending your chosen committee meetings and Member Only Events to network and form friendships, one on one, attending our Public Forum and Professional Development events to keep current and diversify your education and introducing new people to share the benefits our great organization! On this latter point, I am pleased to say that we have six new members as of mid year and three additional applications are underway.
At our Holiday Party last year, I announced my biggest wish for CREW CT-The Real Estate Exchange, to be able to report that 100% of our members had either referred business to or had business referred to them, by one of our other members. At the time, I thought that was true for maybe 50% of us and I am happy to say, from the anecdotal evidence presented at our Annual Meeting in Essex, I was wrong! Were you there? If you were you will remember that we took a moment after dinner to go around and have each person report the opportunities they've gained through association with CREW CT members. Every single person there, with the exception of our new members, reported at least one instance of having either had business referred to or referring business to another member. What a coup!! We are meeting our objectives and fulfilling our purpose.
Another focus this year has been to revamp sponsorship to better support our organization and plan for the future. We approved the establishment of a formal committee to handle this very important task, dusted off our standard sponsorship program, shook it up a bit, polished it off and the result is a whole new product with different levels and creative offerings. I believe it's really going to renew this vital part of our organization, take a look for yourself and see if you don't agree. And encourage your company to become a sponsor - one of the levels comes with two memberships included! Download a PDF.
Though my tenure is winding down and Rich Meehan's will soon begin, we hope to seamlessly continue the excellent efforts of your Executive Committee to date and stay the above courses into 2012, as well as introduce new ones. A totally new initiative that has taken shape this year that we are psyched to get off the ground next year- is the establishment of a new Committee dedicated to Youth Outreach. New Member Jade Paunovich of Jones Lang LaSalle agreed to chair this and really, was the impetus for same. She came to us last year from North Carolina and told us of her experiences with a CREW NC program there whereby area youth, primarily high school age girls, are introduced, via a fun day of programming and hands on role playing, to the various fields and career opportunities in the world of commercial real estate. What an excellent match with the mission of our organization, and a great way to give back to our community. This Committee presently has four members in addition to Jade. If you would like to join this effort let me or Janet Wheeler know and we will get you reassigned to this Committee.
I look forward to seeing you at our annual Holiday Party on December 15th and as a contributing Member in 2012!
Candace M. Cunningham, JD
